Product Description candlelight yoga will drain tension away & melt anxiety into tranquility with yoga postures specifically chosen to release tension increase strength improve sleep & enhance flexibility. Dvd has bonus 15 minute yoga energizer program Studio: Starz/sphe Release Date: 09/24/2002 Run time: 60 minutes Rating: Nr
Amazon.com The name may suggest a bedtime yoga routine, but these deep stretches and restorative postures are also appropriate in conjunction with a cardio or strength training workout--or as a stress buster at any time of day. Instructor Sara Ivanhoe has a soothing, encouraging manner, but dispenses with the pseudo-spiritualism of some programs (as opposed to the real Eastern philosophy espoused in more serious efforts). She takes the time to explain the essential yogic breathing and each posture is clearly demonstrated--including modifications. After seated stretches, she teaches a series of kneeling cat poses, launches into down dog, and a standing twist. For balance: tree pose, then lunges, forward bends, and a butterfly stretch. This 43-minute practice isn't particularly advanced or strenuous, so beginners will be fine. Also included is a 16-minute "wake-up" routine, intended specifically for energizing in the morning with a standing cat stretch, pyramid pose and a squat. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Sara Ivanhoe Knows How to Help You Relax September 19, 2009 Smart Shopper (Bedford, TX USA) This is "the best" DVD for a relaxing yoga exercise session. I use this DVD almost EVERY night before going to sleep. It is a wonderful stress reliever. I ordered it for my Grandson's Kindergarten Teacher last year. This year I ordered it to give to my girlfriends for Christmas. [There is also a 15 minute version included to use when I need a short session.]
Great Evening Stretching Video August 16, 2009 Susan Zyphur (Southern CA) This is by far my favorite stretching video. Note that I didn't say "yoga video." Although some traditional yoga poses are incorporated, the main focus is simple stretching. I enjoyed the music and the slow pace. I only gave 4 stars because Sara's narration is a bit annoying - I just happen to not like it. But, the reminders she gives are helpful, such as to relax the body, breathe correctly, close the eyes to aid relaxation, etc. Sometimes those of us who are novices focus on the poses or getting the right amount of stretching and forget the important things, like proper form and breathing! Someone practiced in yoga might find her reminders extremely annoying and unnecessary. A great deal of emphasis is placed on stretching the legs and back, with some upper body and neck stretches. This is a fantastic routine when you need to wind down from a hard day or your muscles are feeling extra tight.
great DVD August 11, 2009 S. Smith (flagstaff, az) This is a great introductory Yoga DVD. Sara Ivanhoe is not intimidating, fun and an encouraging teacher.
Simple and Relaxing February 26, 2009 L. Rooney 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I think this DVD is a perfect 'starter' for someone who wants to get into yoga. I consider myself a yoga novice, so I really appreciated the DVDs unpretentious, casual approach. I have both this and the 'joy of yoga' and actually prefer this DVD for a couple reasons:
1) flow. the movements in this DVD seem well put together. they naturally fit with one another and seem to compliment the other poses in the routine.
2) timing. the instructor, Sara Ivanhoe, does a better job in this DVD of keeping the time for each 'side' balanced and equal.
3) breathing. this DVD focuses more on breathing than the others, which I think is a great place to start in yoga.
The only thing I'm not wild about is the music; it's a bit much in that you can 'feel' how much it's supposed to relax you, but I just tune it out!
Great self-care for stress relief. January 29, 2009 uptoolatereadingbooks (Lexington, KY United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is one of my favorite Yoga DVDs. It is relaxing, soothing, & makes me feel great. It's perfect as an after-work, end-of day stretch. It would also make a great gift for someone, packaged with some fuzzy slippers, and a selection of Godiva chocolates and home spa treatments. Switch off the news, stop stressing about the economy, and treat yourself to some extreme yoga self-care.
